2019 Chevrolet Equinox vs 2019 Toyota RAV4 near Round Rock TX
If you’re looking for a new compact SUV, you’re probably in the market for a few things: dynamic road manners, cargo area, plentiful legroom, and efficiency. There are quite a few entries in this segment, but the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox and the 2019 Toyota RAV4 are the most notable. Both brands have spent years refining their crossovers, and while the Toyota will meet your needs, the Chevy will exceed them. Read on to learn why you should consider the 2019 Equinox from our dealership near Round Rock Texas.
Engine Options – 2019 Chevrolet Equinox
Although the RAV4 has been completely redesigned for this model year, it hasn’t quite caught up to the Equinox. Here, you’ll get three different engine choices compared to the RAV4’s two options. The Chevy Equinox comes with a turbo 1.5L that puts out 170hp. There’s also an optional 2.0L turbo four with 252hp, or a 1.6L turbodiesel engine with 137hp. The 2019 Toyota RAV4 gets its power from a 2.5L four-cylinder engine with 203hp; there’s also a hybrid with a 2.5L four that offers 176hp. Stop by our showroom for a test drive, and see the Chevrolet Equinox’s engine choices in action. The Chevrolet Equinox comes with a standard nine-speed automatic transmission for lower engine RPMs at highway speeds, as well as increased acceleration. The RAV4 only comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Standard Features – 2019 Chevrolet Equinox in/near Round Rock TX
One of the best things about the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox is the long list of standard features, most of which cost extra (or aren’t available) on the 2019 RAV4. These include a 6-speaker audio system, USB inputs, Bluetooth connectivity, push-button ignition (optional on the RAV4), a Teen Driver system (not available on the Toyota), Android Auto (not found on the RAV4), Apple CarPlay, WiFi, and a 7-inch touchscreen. Visit us near Round Rock Texas to see all these great tech features in person. We look forward to seeing you!
Wheels and Tires – Chevrolet Equinox specs in/near Round Rock
The available tires on the Equinox Premier provide improved handling because of their lower profile and stiffer sidewalls. The Chevy Equinox has an easy-fill tire system; during inflation, the vehicle’s TPMS tells the driver when the proper pressure is reached. There’s no monitored inflation feature on the RAV4.
Safety Tech and Ratings – Chevrolet Equinox specs in/near Round Rock TX
For increased safety, the 2019 Equinox’s rear safety belts come with an important feature: comfort guides that position the belts for a child-friendly fit. Better fitment prevents injuries, and the increase in comfort may encourage children to remember to buckle up. The 2019 RAV4 has no similar feature. In the past few years, hundreds of children have died from being left in hot vehicles. After turning the Equinox off, the driver is reminded to check the rear seat if the door was opened beforehand. The new RAV4 has no rear seat reminder system. Both the Chevrolet Equinox and the Toyota RAV4 have passenger and driver front airbags, side impact head and front airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners, ABS, front-wheel drive, stability and traction control, rearview cameras, daytime running lights, optional AWD, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, crash mitigation systems, and surround-view monitors. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave the 2019 Equinox a Top Pick designation for 2017, for its top performance in roof crush, rear impact, side impact, and frontal impact testing. As of the time of this review, the RAV4 hasn’t been tested.
Range and Fuel Efficiency – 2019 Chevrolet Equinox dealer
In EPA testing, the Equinox diesel got better fuel economy than the RAV4. The FWD automatic got 28mpg city/39 hwy; the RAV4 got 26/35. The AWD automatic got 28/38; the RAV4 got 27/34. At stoplights and in heavy traffic, the Chevy Equinox’s engine turns off, reducing pollution and saving fuel; it starts automatically when it’s time to go again. The Equinox diesel’s fuel tank holds 1.1 gallons more than the RAV4, and it has a cap-free fueling system for reduced evaporation and pollution. The RAV4 doesn’t have a similar feature.
